Gabriel Magalhaes has completed a medical ahead of his transfer to Arsenal. The Gunners are on the brink of confirming the 22-year-old defender’s arrival from Lille.
Magalhaes arrived in London on Monday to put the finishing touches on the deal, which could be worth up to £27million.
He will put pen to paper on a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium and then the transfer will be announced.
Magalhaes will need to undergo a 14-day quarantine period after landing in the United Kingdom from France due to the Government’s coronavirus restrictions.
He is certain to miss the Community Shield against Liverpool but could be available in time for the Premier League opener at Fulham on September 12.
Arsenal news: Gabriel Magalhaes’ transfer is set to be announced
Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the transfer was effectively done when he tweeted: “Gabriel Magalhaes has completed his medicals with Arsenal today in London.
“He’s with his agents now ready to sign his contract until June 2025 and finally going to be announced as new Arsenal player. Here-we-go confirmed.”
Arsenal have seen off competition from Everton, Manchester United and Napoli for Magalhaes, who will become Mikel Arteta’s second new signing of the summer after Willian.
He is expected to form a partnership at the back alongside William Saliba.
Lille president Gerard Lopez has already explained to Arsenal fans what Magalhaes will bring to the club.
“He is a great kid and that is one of the most important things,” Lopez said.
“He didn’t have an easy start with us given the fact that the coach at the time didn’t trust him because of his age.
“He is a real fighter and has immense physical presence but knows how to use it smartly.”
