Dillian Whyte’s clash with Alexander Povetkin is finally set to go ahead next weekend following its problems due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Britain’s ‘Body Snatcher’ was set to take on the tough Russian in Manchester back in May but the exciting fight has been put back due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
It was hoped that Whyte vs Povetkin could usher in the return of elite sport but the clash was shelved.
Now, several weeks on, the two heavyweights are set to go toe-to-toe in the biggest bout since boxing returned.
Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin will face off on August 22
Whyte vs Povetkin: Date and time
Dillian Whyte beat Mariusz Wach in Saudi Arabia last December on the undercard for Anthony Joshua’s rematch win over Andy Ruiz Jr.
Povetkin was also on that card and fought out an exciting draw with American Michael Hunter.
The two heavyweights, who have both lost to Joshua, were set to meet at the Manchester Arena on Saturday, May 2 but the coronavirus pandemic forced the card to be rearranged.
Matchroom had hoped to have Whyte vs Povetkin on Saturday, July 4 but that also had to be put back.
Now, the two will finally meet on Saturday, August 22 at Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Fight Camp.
The main event fight will get underway at around 10pm for UK fans while there’s an exciting rematch between Katie Taylor and Delfine Persoon on the undercard.
