Frank Warren insists Tyson Fury won’t fight Dillian Whyte this year or next year

Frank Warren has declared that Tyson Fury has no plans to fight Dillian Whyte in 2020, or 2021.

The WBC reaffirmed last week that Whyte is mandatory for the winner of Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3, which should see him get his title shot early next year.

However, the ‘Gypsy King’ has previously made it clear that, after Wilder, he has his sights set on Anthony Joshua.

When asked about the topic, Fury’s UK promoter Warren said: “He ain’t fighting Dillian Whyte. That ain’t happening this year.

“And I’ve got tell you next year it ain’t gonna happen.

“Because all he wants to fight, he wants Anthony Joshua.

Whyte holds the WBC ‘interim’ belt and is mandatory for Fury

“Let’s all be honest, if we were in the pub and said, ‘What do you want? Do you want to see Tyson fight Whyte or do you wanna see him fight AJ?’

“It’s a no-brainer, so let’s get that on. No-one stand in the way of that, let’s get that on.

“And then, while Dillian is waiting for his opportunity, fight Daniel Dubois and then the winner can fight him [Fury].”

There is a rule under the WBC that allows for ‘special bouts’ to sometimes take priority over mandatory challengers.

Joshua is the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion and has agreed financial terms to face Fury

However, due to the controversy surrounding Whyte’s wait for a title shot, it’s unclear whether they would put him on hold once more to permit Fury vs Joshua to take place next.

If the WBC enforce Whyte’s mandatory, then Fury would have to vacate his title in order to face AJ instead, therefore scuppering the bout’s ‘undisputed’ status.

Warren continued: “Would we like to see the fight him and Joshua with all the belts? Absolutely.

“But if a belt’s not on the line, who gives a s***? It’s the fight that we wanna see…

Fury is the WBC and Ring Magazine heavyweight champion

“I mean this with the greatest respect to everybody involved, I don’t care whether the belts are on the line or not.

“It’s the best heavyweight fight out there and it would be the biggest sporting event in my opinion since England winning the World Cup.

“It could transcend the sport, it’d be on the front pages everywhere.

“It’s a massive event, it’s what we wanna see and it’s important for sport that it happens.

“I don’t want it getting ruined by any other crap – of course Dillian wants his fight and I get it – but that for me is like a pimple on a rhinoceros’ a*** compared to seeing this fight.”
