Carl Froch has revealed what Tyson Fury told him about Anthony Joshua in a direct message on Instagram this week.
Following Dillian Whyte’s defeat to Alexander Povetkin on Saturday, the path to a Fury vs Joshua fight has started to clear.
Froch and Fury are longtime friends
Financial terms for the all-British undisputed heavyweight title showdown have already been agreed.
Fury vs Joshua appears inevitable so long as they both come through their next bouts against Deontay Wilder and Kubrat Pulev respectively.
However, it appears the ‘Gypsy King’ still has his doubts.
Froch said on his ‘Froch on Fighting’ podcast: “He messaged me after I put something on my Instagram story,
Fury is the WBC heavyweight champion
“It was a picture of AJ and Fury facing off, I put it on my story and I put a little ticking clock above it.
“And I’ve had a message sent to me in my direct inbox from Tyson Fury.
“I’ve known Fury for years, we trained together before my first world title, his debut was actually on my undercard for my world title.
“And he’s put to me, ‘The fight won’t happen, the man’s a s***house. And he and his promoter know I’ll go through him like a hot knife through butter.’”
Joshua is the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion
Despite Fury’s doubts, the pair have agreed to fight twice in 2021.
These terms state that the first bout will be a 50/50 purse split, while the rematch will be a 60/40 split in favour of whomever wins the first.
It is unknown where and when the fights are going to happen, though the most likely venue seems the Middle East.
