Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s face-to-face meeting on Saturday happened by pure coincidence, according to Eddie Hearn.
The heavyweight champions shared a conversation in Marbella as the ‘Gypsy King’ pulled his car over and spoke to AJ out of the window.
Joshua and Fury came face-to-face
Joshua quickly posted the above picture to his social media pages after the encounter.
He teased a potential bout between them by captioning it: “Sweeeeeeeeeeeet Caroline!! Ohhhh ohhh ohhhhh.”
Fury reacted by reposting Joshua’s picture to his own Intagram story.
He added the caption: “2021, it’s going off.”
Hearn promotes Joshua
Details of the conversation did not initially emerge, but after speaking to Joshua, Hearn has now revealed what was said.
“It was amazing, people think it was a set up,” the promoter explained.
“AJ said he was walking down the road and Fury drove up and opened the window and was like, ‘Alright?’
“I think he said to AJ, ‘Make sure you beat Kubrat Pulev.’ And AJ said, ‘Make sure you beat Deontay Wilder.’
“And they both said, ‘I will, and I’ll see you next year.’
Fury’s next bout will be a trilogy with Wilder
Joshua and Fury currently reign as the two kings in boxing’s glamour division, with Anthony holding the WBA, IBF and WBO belts while Tyson has the WBC crown.
The two Brits have agreed financial terms to fight twice in 2021.
These terms state that the first bout will be a 50/50 purse split, while the rematch will be a 60/40 split in favour of whomever wins the first.
It is unknown where and when the fights are going to happen, though the most likely venue seems the Middle East.
First though, both men must keep their word and win their upcoming bouts.
