Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev was shocked by Frenchman Jeremy Chardy at the Paris Masters 2019. Medvedev took the opening set 6-4, before Chardy retaliated with a 6-2 win in the second set.
Chardy would then delight the Parisian crowd by taking the final set 6-4 to knock out the 23-year old in the second round. Daniil Medvedev got a bye in the first found before locking horns with the Frenchman.
The Russian has been on a high in the last few months, as he has established himself as one of the top players in the world. Daniil Medvedev has previously the Shanghai Masters, St Petersburg Open and Cincinnati Masters.
Furthermore, Medvedev made the final of the Rogers Cup, Citi Open and US Open. He actually made the final of every tournament he has played since Wimbledon 2019. Sadly for him, the dream run has now come to an end.
Jermey Chardy entered this match on the back of a victory over Sam Querrey in 3 sets. Chardy won 94% of his service games and 4 return games against the American and set a daunting task for Daniil Medvedev.
Chardy and Medvedev have clashed twice, with both players winning on 1 occasion. The most recent match between the two was earlier in the season with Medvedev winning in straight sets. Now, it seems that the 32-year old has got his revenge on the Russian.
