Liverpool’s ‘£58million bid for Kalidou Koulibaly’ rejected by Napoli

Liverpool have reportedly seen a £58m bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly knocked back by the Serie A side.

The Reds are one of several sides believed to be interested in signing Koulibaly this summer.

Manchester United have previously been credited with interest in Koulibaly, while PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been in the same boat.

But Liverpool appeared to take things one step further by tabling a £58m for the Senegal international, according to Corriere dello Sport.

However, their approach was firmly declined by the Serie A giants, who are understood to be open to selling Koulibaly in order to raise funds.

Interested parties will have to stump up more than Liverpool were offering though, with an asking price thought to be around £90m.

Meanwhile, Koulibaly recently returned from a long-term injury, and he thanked his team-mates and fans for their patience with him.

“Many things are changing at Napoli, but above all they are returning to the way they were,” he told RAI Sport.

“I hadn’t started a match for six months, so I am very happy to be back playing with my teammates.

“They and all the fans gave me so much support during this difficult time and I want to repay them for that.”

Following the news of Liverpool’s bid, a flurry of bets have been placed on Koulibaly making the surprise switch to Anfield, with the odds coming in at 5/1.

The most likely outcome is that he stays at Napoli (9/10), while United are the favourites when it comes to actually making a move at 3/1, while Liverpool and PSG are joint in third.
