Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Gabriel Magalhaes.

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Arsenal and Napoli target Gabriel Magalhaes, it’s been claimed. The Red Devils are running on borrowed time, however, as Magalhaes wants to join his new club in the next 48 hours.

Magalhaes has impressed at Lille over the last season in Ligue 1, attracting various clubs.

Arsenal have been interested in him all summer, and it’s been reported by journalist Duncan Castles that Magalhaes was due to undergo a medical with the north London club.

Napoli, though, were also in the running to sign him, but Arsenal now look favourites to do so.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, United have asked for more time to sign Magalhaes.

But Magalhaes wants his situation resolved immediately, and has set a 48-hour deadline on his future.

Arsenal sit in the driver’s seat, as a result, while United will have to put in some serious work to nab him away from Mikel Arteta’s side.

Di Marzio also states that fresh developments could occur over the weekend, when Magalhaes is expected to choose.

Arteta is looking to shore up his defence and will likely spend around £27million on Magalhaes.

The young Frenchman is admired by Gunners chiefs, who the Telegraph say are thinking about players to sell to fund Magalhaes arrival.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Calum Chambers and Rob Holding could all be offloaded before the transfer window closes in October.

Arteta is also hoping that Arsenal come to an agreement on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension.

It’s expected the Gabonese striker will sign a new deal in the coming days, which is a huge boost to Arteta ahead of the new season.

The Spaniard implemented a new playing style at Arsenal over the course of last season, following his appointment in December.

Arsenal kick off their 2020/21 Premier League campaign against Fulham on September 12.
