Manny Pacquiao hits back at Floyd Mayweather after misinterpreting ‘old man’ comments

Manny Pacquiao has branded Floyd Mayweather ‘envious’ in response to being called an ‘old man’ by his former rival.

However, there appears to have been a miscommunication somewhere along the line as Mayweather’s comment was seemingly not intended to be an insult.

When asked about Pacquiao still fighting, Mayweather said to FightHype: “It’s his prerogative to do what he wants to do.

“I don’t have anything against him, but it’s not me. It’s sad that you hear guys say, ‘I want to fight Manny Pacquiao.’

“But Manny Pacquiao is 41 now. Don’t chase him. You young guys chase each other. Stop chasing this old man. If the opportunity presents itself, go out and do what you got to do.

“Let Manny Pacquiao pick and choose who he wants to fight. With everything he’s accomplished, hopefully, he’s made some smart investments.”

Their fight generated around $500m

Pacquiao seemed to misinterpret Mayweather’s intentions and responded by telling The Manila Times: “He is just envious because he’s already retired. We’re still active and have a crown.

“I’m not thinking about that [retiring] yet. I’m concerned first and foremost about our countrymen and about how to resolve this pandemic.

“Actually, I just finished hitting the punching bag. No retirement yet, I’m still training.”
