Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Samuel Vargas went pretty much to script on Friday night.
The highly-rated American prospect outworked and outclassed his gutsy gatekeeper opponent and continued his progression up the welterweight ranks.

However, there was one moment in round five that could not have been further from the script.
With two minutes remaining in the session, Vargas temporarily backed off and let out a burp.
This was clearly audible as the fight took place with no fans in attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ortiz Jr looked briefly taken aback, but then replied, ‘It’s that chicken, boy,’ which drew a laugh from those at ringside.
The pair had a funny exchange
The 22-year-old then returned to work and battered his 31-year-old opponent from pillar to post.
By the end of round seven, referee Jack Reiss had seen enough and jumped in to call a halt to the contest.
Ortiz Jr is now 16-0 with 16 KOs and closing in on a world title shot.
Vargas is now 31-6-2, awaiting his next call.
