The ‘Body Snatcher’ had a fledgling career in another sport before focussing solely on boxing
Dillian Whyte is now one of boxing’s top heavyweights, however his career path could have been very different.
Before he took up the sport full-time, the British heavyweight competed in both kickboxing and MMA.
While most of the footage from his brief careers in these two sports is unavailable, one video has now re-emerged of Whyte kickboxing Will Riva in 2009.
The ‘Body Snatcher’ dominated the bout and dropped his opponent several times en route to a huge third-round knockout.
Dillian’s brutal knee to the head cleaned out his overmatched opponent and won him the WPKL British title at the time.
Dillian will be back in the ring on July 20 to face Oscar Rivas
It was around this period that Whyte switched focus to boxing and had his first amateur bout against a little-known youngster from Finchley called Anthony Joshua.
That fight – in which he floored and beat the future heavyweight world champion – began a career that has led the 31-year-old to the point he’s at today, on the verge of a title shot himself.
